Maersk reorganises globally, makes Hong Kong Asia-Pacific headquarters

WITH the reorganisation of Maersk Line, the world's biggest container shipping company will now make its Asia-Pacific headquarters in Hong Kong with the integration of the North Asia Region, while creating subordinate "clusters" in the regions.

Air cargo screening needed as terror risks rise and volumes grow

Market Research Reports Inc has says air cargo screening in the Americas, Asia Pacific, and Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) is expected to grow 5.15 per cent a year through 2019, according to Shipping Gazette.Given that the air cargo industry is vulnerable to terror attacks, there is an increased need for air cargo screening systems as shipment volumes are increasing.

Kalmar to deliver four reachstackers with the new-generation K-Motion drive line

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has announced a contract to supply Immingham Container Terminal in the UK with four Kalmar Gloria reachstackers equipped with new Kalmar K-Motion technology. The units are part of a significant investment by Associated British Ports (ABP), who are modernising their fleet to meet the growing demand for short sea container transit at the port.

Premiere for new service to Asia

A new direct service operated by the G6 Alliance between Sweden and Asia has started. The alliance call at APM Terminals, the container terminal at the Port of Gothenburg, once a week.Up to now, Sweden has had just one direct container service to the Far East-the weekly service operated from Gothenburg by MSC and Maersk Line. Now a second service is added.

11,400-TEU CMA CGM Callis biggest ship in Puget Sound docks in Seattle

The biggest ship ever to come into Puget Sound, the 11,400-TEU CMA CGM Callisto, has docked at Terminal 18 in Seattle, heralding the arrival of mega-ships cascading into the transpacific trades."Ships continue to get larger, and we are ready for them,"said John Wolfe, Northwest Seaport Alliance chief executive officer.
